Having a hard time with worry?

Are you having a hard time leaving at the altar what you took there in the first place? Let me explain a little bit about what I’m going to be trying to get at in this post.

Are there times when you go to the altar for yourself? When you need to pray so fervently that the altar is the only place you can take it? There are times when you go to the altar to ask God to heal a loved one or to intercede on behalf of someone unable to make it to Church that day. The times I’m more directly referring to are the times you need to go to the altar to pray about your heart. You know that you love the Lord, he is all around you everyday living with you, abiding with you as Jesus said:

John 14:21 ESV
“Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”

John 15:10 ESV
“If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.”

So you know that you love God. You know that but still there are times when you go to the altar to seek healing in your heart. It could be that you have to forgive someone of something they have done to you but you cant do it without Jesus. It could be that you have wronged someone and cant forgive yourself, you cant do it without Jesus. It can be anything that you are struggling with that is putting a monkey on your back so that you cannot get through one day without worrying over it.

Matthew 6:34 NIV
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Matthew 6:27 NIV
“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”

We are instructed by Jesus to not worry, not about tomorrow, not about what we wear, what we eat, instead we ought to pray. Which is why we are often lead to the altar to pray over our worries.

Therefore, I am lead to the whole point of the post. Its not easy to leave your worries at the altar, be it prayer for a loved one with cancer, or for the affair your wife had that you know about even though she never told you. What you take to the altar NEEDS to be left at the altar. Jesus can handle it! You can’t. He’s already proven that, just look to Calvary and the cross.

We can do this anywhere though, the altar can be your desk, your bedside, your shower, your front porch. The altar at church has always been a special place because it so represents the sacrifice. As Bill Keller said in his blog “Liveprayer Daily Devotional“: May the altar, a place of sacrifice, always be a reminder of the sacrifice that Christ made when he died for our sins. May the altar, a place of prayer, always be a reminder that we are totally dependent on God.

I also want to bear in mind that not everyone who might stumble onto this page is a follower of Jesus and not everyone who wallows their way here goes to church or even has a clue what the various ways an altar call happens. For that reason I want to add that ANYONE who spends hours and hours of countless days worrying over any kind of heart-ache related issue can still benefit from this process. Take your hurt and feelings of bitterness or hurt or shame and take them to God. I can only promise that it will enlighten you to understanding that He cares. Maybe it might plant a seed in your heart to find out more about this Christ Jesus who can take away worry and pain and give peace in mind and heart and soul with the blink of an eye. He already suffered the most excruciating and humiliating death on a cross for you and for me, what is a little worry or bitterness to Him? Think about it. He loves each and everyone of us. He is aching for you to come to him and be a part of his family.

I just want to leave you with one final thought.

if YOU could place ANY BURDEN you SUFFER with DAILY on HIM. knowing HE loves you. knowing he CARES. knowing FULLY that you ARE not ALONE. would you TRUST that HE would take it? and LEAVE it with HIM? TRUST HIM
